July 5th 2023 - I’d like to thank everyone who was a part of the Wholeheart Album Release Tour this past April. We had a very sweet run of concerts from Vancouver Island to Regina Saskatchewan and back.

I am glad we got to meet up at the shows and that the album is finding a way to you.

If you are looking for the album you can find it here:

We played some great bars, a heavy metal Pizza place, a dinner theatre, a basement club, a restaurant, and an office building. We drove through a snow storm in April and Stephen got a Carolina Rod Brindamour card.

The turnouts were solid and it was wonderful to see you all out at the shows.

Special thanks to Stephen and the Northcote band Mike and Eric for rehearsing so much and making the shows great.

More news will be coming soon about future Northcote events and music so please stay tuned and take care.

I am writing to tell you about my new album Wholeheart.

The album will be released for streaming March 2023.

Can’t Stay the Same, Field of Love and If You are the first singles from the album.

This is the 6th studio album for me.

On Wholeheart I am performing in my Singer/Songwriter style while exploring the recent influence of Indian Devotional and Chanting music.

The chanting music can at times bring me a sense of wellbeing which I am still learning to understand and explain.

The process of making Wholeheart reminded me of when I was playing in a hardcore band when I was nineteen years old.

On this collection I have attempted to be more centered on an atmospheric and free form space.

The album features guest vocalists David Goertzen (Shallow End) and Matt Postal (Living with Lions).

Wholeheart was Produced and Mixed by Colin Stewart at the Hive in Victoria BC. The album features Stephen Mcgillivray on guitar, Mike Battle on percussion, both Mike Battle and Eric Paone assisted in pre production.

Let Me Roar - Deluxe Out Now

Back in 2019 , feeling hollow and burnt out, I entered an educational retreat on Gabriola Island, BC. In the weeks following this retreat I pulled together the material and made plans to record what would become Let Me Roar. When I think of this record, I feel frightened by that period in time and also comforted by the memories of my friends and I recording together.

To me, much of the record is about my struggle to discover more of the person I am beyond the roles I play as Brother, Son, Husband, etc. Making this record with my friends on Gabriola Island, staying in the cabin, visiting in the evenings and recording during the day is a precious and grounding memory for me of feeling creative.

I am excited for folks to get to know the record because I am curious if others will relate to what I am sharing. It is my desire to be a more open and genuine performer and person, bumps and bruises and all. I am excited about the tones and feeling of Let Me Roar. I hope the album brings comfort and refreshing energy to listeners. - Matt

Update: The Deluxe version of Let Me Roar was released on June 25th. It includes a new song called “War Is Over”, my first attempt at writing, playing and singing to piano, along with a live version of “Nine To Midnight”, recorded at Alix Goolden Hall here in Victoria, BC. Link is below, I hope this brings new life to the album which is very special to me.

Stream Let Me Roar or buy on CD or Vinyl now.

As a complement to the studio album Let Me Roar, and in observance of the fact that we have not been able to get on the road to share it with the world this year, we holed up a the beautiful Alix Goolden Theatre in Victoria to record a live version of the album. Please enjoy Secret Hours: Live at Alix Goolden Hall wherever you stream your music. If you missed the broadcast of the virtual concert, you can still check it out here for a limited time.
